Since 1919. One of the Oldest Bakery in the Philippines |
I grew up visiting my aunt (who already passed away) living and working in Farmacia Peralta, a pharmacy in front of the Panaderia Dimas-Alang. And sure enough, this place was a witness to my childhood.
This bakery is 103 years old now, as of this writing.
A few years back, there were a small number of choices of bread, pastries, and cakes, but now, this bakery is going with the flow as it competes with the new trends in the bakery business.
But why would you compete, if you've sustained for more than a century, right? They don't have to, I guess. The panaderia is still in its coolest form, with the rustic looks from the outside and enhanced brown color in its interior. This is one of the most well-loved establishments in Pasig city. Of course, they have given pride to the community.

This fridge was the place that I would go to immediately when I was young. Ah, even now. |
How can I forget this fridge? This reminded me of buying that Brazo de Mercedes, which I first tasted here far before Goldilocks or Red Ribbon came into Pasig. Or that egg pie that my sister, Kulet's favorite. Or wanting that chocolate roll cake and would ask my mom to buy a slice for me.
And of course, the birthday cakes from our younger years. Those were my kiddie days.

I wonder how this would taste. |
I haven't seen this chicken empanada before. Maybe this is something new? Hmm... I guess. Because if it was there before, I could not imagine myself not tasting it yet.
*I didn't buy the empanada though when we went there because it was overwhelming for me. I could come back any time anyway.

Monay is a famous bread in the Philippines. |
Is monay only from the Philippines?
Well, I haven't seen monay from another country. For sure, not in Vietnam. This bread is another famous creation of Panaderia Dimas-alang. I forgot how many times I've eaten this and I know for sure I've eaten this a lot. Lol!

This too |
The egg pandesal is something that is new to my eyes. As far as I know, whenever I got the chance to sleep in my aunt's place, we would buy pandesal here. Oh, not just in the morning. Sometimes, even in the afternoon or during snack time. We would make egg spread at times but most often, pandesal can just be munched at its plainest form and it's better to eat when it is still warm. :D

It may look plain from the outside but cocolicious from the inside. |
The Pan de Coco is another famous bread in the Philippines. I was once a fan of it, but maybe, I have enough of it now. If you haven't tasted it yet, maybe this is the sign for you to try it.
And the most famous bread of all is...... Hindi Ko Akalain. (translation: I did not expect)
This name of the bread is not a joke. You may also call this, "Akalain". I am not sure how long this bread existed but for sure it will not go extinct not even close to endangered. (Haha!) As most people love this bread as much as _____(a. life b. wife c.car).
Well, if you're going to ask me, I am not really into hard bread or biscuit. This bread is like a biscuit. I remember during pandemic, my mom asked me to buy "Akalain" when I walked towards Kapasigan (where Panaderia Dimas-alang is located) and I bought 10 packs. My mom likes it and our dog, Menggay too. She told me that she used to buy bread when she was still working with my aunt in the same pharmacy and the owner of the drugstore would ask them to buy some. She said it is one of the souvenirs that people could buy as a gift, especially for older people. I am not sure if you will like it, but at least have a taste of this old bread from the old bakery.
