Faluwa Lala : Inside MB Veronica
Have you heard of the faluwa ride? I've been reading a lot of articles about the Faluwa Ride and it did scare me. Who doesn't the termed "like hell", "I survived", "fear" and so on and so forth they associated it with. Faluwa Ride is the boat ride in Batanes. It was 2nd day when Sheena and I get to experience it when we went to Itbayat Island. It took us almost 3 hours of what they say "one hell of a ride." I scares me at first because the waves were a bit rough. It was raining in Manila during that time and mind you, even though it's not raining in Batanes and storm is passing to other parts of the country it might affect the sea level in Batanes because the islands are small and it's near the Pacific Ocean and South China Sea.
I think we were just lucky that there is a bigger boat now going to Itbayat and that's the MB Veronica. There is only one trip going to Itbayat and there is no schedule during Sunday.
The faluwa ride going to Itbayat is not a passenger boat there are few long chairs. The main purpose of it is to transport goods from Basco to Itbayat. You have to indian sit or lay down or do what you want to do. (I hope you're responsible enough to understand this.)
And yes, the sea was rough. waves was a little bit high but as they say the coast guard will tell the Captain if they CAN go or not. If not they need to bring the boat to the shelter.
It's like a surfing board it needs to dance with the waves. The hard part of going to Itbayat aside from longer hours, as compared to Itbayat to Basco trip - it's against the waves of the ocean. And another yes, I was rolling inside the faluwa. (Can you imagine? Haha!) - It was a great experience!!! To be honest, I could not imagine how fulfilling it was to ride the faluwa especially that the waves were high. I love how the wind blew my face and small splashes of water from the ocean. If you're an adventurista like me - you will enjoy this ride!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! but if you're not - I hope you've tried riding the Rio Grande in Enchanted Kingdom - it's not like that - it's a bit complicated than that. (Complicated! haha!) Kidding!
Sheena and I get to experience going to the top load when we're near Itbayat. Very Beautiful experience.
Also, I would like to say Kudos to the crew of MB Veronica it was through them that I saw one characteristics of Ivatan which I truly admire - they will make sure the safety of the passenger. When we were about to go home to Basco, I was sitting at the back and one of the crew fixed the rope at my side so that I can enjoy the view, Whenever they see a passenger vomiting they will stay by your side and they will make sure you're comfortable.
We also did get to experience to ride the faluwa ride from Ivana to Sabtang which took us 20 mins wherein I saw dolphins camouflaged with the waves.
I have pictures for all of you. This is how it looks like inside the faluwa going to Itbayat - Lemme know if it scares you.
The sea was calmer. I was able to do my yoga stretches inside while enjoying the view. |
