Smile Again, Bohol

6 months after the Earthquake. And now, How are you Bohol?

month of May when we visited Cebu and Bohol. It was 6 months after the Earthquake.
Flashback: Bohol was hit by a 7.2 magnitude Earthquake. Affected was the entire Central Visayas Region of the Philippines. btw, 3 weeks after Central Visayas also suffered from typhoon Hayan.

Saturday when we arrived in Bohol it was raining. We stayed in Tagbilaran overnight and did the Bohol tour on Sunday.  Sunday morning when our driver for the day arrived. His name was "Kuya Eric".
Kuya Eric served as our driver, tour guide, entertainer and photographer rolled into one. He was really fun to be with - no dull moments with him. 6 months after the Earthquake it was nice to know that we're smiling, laughing.

From Tagbilaran we did the road trip.

Chocolate Hills

First stop was Carmen. Bohol was famous for this tourist attraction. Included in the UNESCO  World Heritage. Definitely a must visit in Bohol. As we drive through the peak where you would see a lot of Chocolate Hills covering different towns of the province, the hills will present itself to you. The top was under construction. I do not know what it looks like before but you can see that it was devastated.

Tarsier Conservation Sanctuary

It was located in Loboc. Philippine Tarsiers can only be found in Bohol, Philippines. Tarsiers are nocturnal animals. We only found 3 tarsiers but we were told that a lot of them are in the forest. I believed they were sleeping too. Also, a must see when you visit Bohol. The Tarsiers are also considered the mascot of Bohol.

Loboc Church

Among the churches that were greatly affected by the Earthquake it was the Loboc Church. Loboc Church was one of the Baroque Churches in the Philippines. One of the oldest churches in Bohol. We asked Kuya Eric if we could stopped by Loboc Church to see how it was impaired. I went inside and took photos of it.

The ShipHaus

He insisted to take our photos at the ShipHaus since we're already in Bohol.
ShipHaus is located in Batuan. Owned by Capt Dumapias, who is a succesful mariner of Butuan.
It was featured in one of the local shows in the Philippines as one of the unique houses in the Philippines and became famous and now part of the tourist attractions in Bohol.

Man Made Forest
As per Bianx's Request.

Located in Bilar. It was a project of the Loboc Watershed Reforestation under Governor Conrado Marapao. This was due to the problem of the kaingin system in Bohol.
The Man Made Forest is now a tourist attraction.

Baclayon Church

It was the 2nd oldest Church in the Philippines. You can never deny the aftermath of the earthquake when you visit Baclayon Church. The bell tower was the one greatly affected. Outside were the remnants of the bell tower covered in blue tent. Stones were scattered.
Although inside you'll see constructions going on - still it was beautiful. I like how the lights enter through the colored glass stained windows and how it lights through giving that hope and beauty no matter how old it was.
Very beautiful even devastated.

Plus, do not forget to visit the museum. It is one way of helping Baclayon Church.
